It’s instantly evident that Kam-BU is a talent whose ceiling is nowhere in sight, a rapper whose path to stardom has just begun.
Recognised as “One of the UK’s most exciting new rappers” by NME, South London’s Kam-BU has been making waves with his 2021 EP ‘Black on Black’. With his laid-back flow and powerfully political lyricism combined with the cinematic visuals of his music videos, Kam-BU is catching the attention of the industry’s most important titles, securing high-praising features in i-D, Dazed, Wonderland, and Notion to name a few.
His music is poetic and authentic, exploring complex themes including social injustice, politics, race and environmentalism. The socially- conscious artist is dedicated to making art with integrity and which honours his Jamaican roots and Rastafai upbringing. ‘Black on Black’ is a ten-track dedication to the Windrush generation with impactful and introspective bars that follow the experience of life as a young, black male amongst the diaspora in the UK.
Kam-BU speaks often of the importance of community stating “volunteering and community work have always been important to me. It’s always been about ‘what more can I offer to this life that I have, and this planet that I live on?”. The artist’s commitment to conservation and dedication to speaking on sustainability make him a unique voice among his peers and this passion saw Kam-BU front the recent Gucci x FARFETCH campaign ‘Imagined Futures’. The collaboration focuses on fusing sustainability, brand values, community and innovation. With two Arena Homme+ covers and a Bianca Saunders campaign also under his belt it’s clear that Kam-BU is cementing himself as a solid one to watch.
“The mission is to create a better place for humans and the planet and for animals, where there is no hierarchy. The feeling I’d like to inject into my music is the same feeling I get when taking part in those outdoor activities” - KAM-BU IN THE LONDON EVENING STANDARD
