The breakdancing Derby boy set for the Olympics
As Nike’s first sponsored male athlete from the Break-dancing world, Karam Singh is the rising star putting the spotlight back on this classic dance style and reintroducing Breaking to a new generation. Singh’s impressive skills have found the perfect stage on TikTok where his upbeat viral videos Breaking to trending tracks have gained him over 230,000 followers. His trajectory is skyrocketing and he’s not only catching the attention of the sporting industry but has also recently performed at a Fendi event and has worked on campaigns with brands including Fred Perry and 11Degrees.
Self-describing his dance style as "playful, explosive, fast and dynamic", Karam takes the native Hip-Hop styles of Breaking and often seamlessly blends in his own Indian heritage. A young Karam Singh was awestruck after witnessing the dance stylings of Trinity Warriors crew, igniting a dream, and by the age of 10 was already dancing competitively. It wasn’t until winning on the international stage at France’s 2010 Chelles Battle Pro that the world took notice.
In an instant, Karam went from being mentored at Trinity Warriors Dance Academy, to winning titles at world renown competitions: World BBoy Classic, KOD in Changsha and the UK’s BBoy Championships held in London. As news of Breaking becoming the newest sport added to the Paris 2024 Olympic games floods the sporting community, we see a strong contender in Karam, who no doubt could be representing Team GB very soon.
