The emerging London-born, Maryland-raised artist, producer and creative who has already worked with the likes of Tyler, the Creator and Pusha T.
Maryland-born rapper and producer IDK returns this year with ‘Simple’, his latest EP produced by Grammy Award-winning artist Kaytranada.
The 8-track project is named after ‘Simple City’, a neighborhood in the artist’s city of which he says "it gets its name because you can get killed for any simple reason. From drug abuse to crime and murder, I wanted to cover what it feels like to be from Simple City and teach the world that the fix to helping disadvantaged black communities isn’t as simple as you think.”
IDK - an acronym for Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge - is passionate about using music for positive change. He’s currently in the middle of devising a music business programme at Harvard University. The programme ‘No Label Academy’ is tuition-free and aims to empower the next generation of artists of color - teaching students fundamental knowledge about the music business, from financial literacy to monetization and even mental health and fame.
With the release of ‘Simple’ IDK adds Mike Dimes and Denzel Curry to his growing list of impressive collaborators which includes Pharrell Williams, Offset, Tyler, The Creator, Joey Badass, DMX, ASAP Ferg and Pusha T.
“The most important thing for me is I’m an example of success for a lot of people,” he said. “Even when I feel like I have more work to do, there’s a lot of people who would die to be in the position that I’m in. So, my idea is showing them that I’m here, I’m close, and I’m within reach. And then using my platform to create an environment for them to be able to dream and think about things that they want to become, and to not feel like it’s not possible.” - IDK
